Points-Based Migration Guides
Australia PR Points Guide (SkillSelect)
Australia's SkillSelect points test scores candidates out of 130 across age, education, work experience, and English proficiency. A minimum of 65 points is required to submit an Expression of Interest, though state nomination (Subclass 190) or regional sponsorship (Subclass 491) can add valuable bonus points for borderline profiles. Most invited candidates in recent rounds score 85 or above for the Subclass 189 independent visa.

Canada's Comprehensive Ranking System scores candidates out of 1,200 points, though core human capital factors alone rarely exceed 500. Candidates enter the Express Entry pool and receive Invitations to Apply based on periodic draws — recent cut-offs have typically ranged from 470 to 540. A Provincial Nomination adds 600 points instantly, making it one of the most powerful levers available to a candidate.

The UK's points-based system requires 70 points total. Fifty of those points are mandatory — a valid job offer from a licensed sponsor and English language ability at B1 level or above. The remaining 20 tradeable points come from salary level, shortage occupation status, or a relevant PhD, giving flexibility to candidates who fall short on salary alone.
